Dining at The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat Ipoh (Pomelo and Jeff’s Cellar) – Review

Dining experiences we had in the Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat were nothing less than top notch. Food quality and presentation were excellent, service was exquisite and attentive with calm and comfortable ambiance – what else could you ask for?

We had dinner the first night at The Pomelo – the retreat’s all day dining restaurant. If you did read my previous post, you could recall that we had monkeys coming into our villa, and that incident kind off spoilt our mood for a bit. But as soon as we were dining at The Pomelo, with Lucia’s (GM) great hospitality, Felix’s (Executive Chef) well planned menu, and the management’s gift (a bottle of good white wine) – we started to feel so much better.

We had buffet breakfast the next morning at The Pomelo, and the selection although was not as extensive as the one we had in Westin KL, but was sufficient.

Lunch on the second day after our Spa Session (click here for link to the Spa Review) was at The Pomelo too. We got to choose a starter, a main dish and a dessert of our choice for lunch (included in the package). Food quality was very good and dining experience again, was amazing.

During breakfast service, we were informed by Vin that the Pomelo restaurant would be closed down right after lunch for renovation and everything would be moved to the Jeff’s Cellar. And the experience dining at the Jeff’s Cellar was out of the world! Imagine a natural limestone cave, with modern table settings and furnishings, tonnes of lighting to create the dramatic kind of ambiance, fully air-conditioned and Andrea Bocelli’s songs were pumped through the whole cave with Bose Surround Sound System – you have got to experience it yourself to understand what I’m talking about.

We arrived at the Cellar around 7, and were led to a higher platform in the cave, overlooking all the rest of the dining tables. We were told by Raj that it was specially arranged by the management for us to have more privacy. And again, Felix and Lucia came to our table several times during dinner to make sure everything was okay. The dining experience was intimate, private, and we felt like royalties (with extra special treatments) the whole time!
